Fourth of July 2013. Photo credit: aflags.blogspotThe 4th of July is this coming Thursday, and the city of Santa Clarita has a lot going on according to Mayor Bob Kellar.

The 4th of July in Santa Clarita festivities begin at 8:00 am with the 5k and 10k Independence Day runs, beginning in Newhall.

The runs will go along the parade route, and there’s still time to sign up at www.scrunners.org.

The Fourth of July parade begins at 9:00 am, running down Main Street, Lyons Ave., and Orchard Village Road, then coming to a finish on 16th street.

At 9:15 pm, the Fourth of July Fireworks show will begin at the Westfield Valencia Town Center. Be sure to arrive early if you want to get a good seat – the place fills up fast!

Holidays sadly, are one of the times when people are charged with DUI’s most often. This upcoming 4th of July, the LAPD plans a number of DUI patrols and checkpoints all over the Los Angeles area in an effort to catch those driving under the influence before any harm can be done.

Remember to stay out from behind the wheel if you decide to drink alcohol while celebrating. Arrange a designated driver beforehand, or just plan to stay where you are. It’s much, much easier to be safe than it is to be sorry.

If you want to know what else you can do to  stay safe, contact the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station for more information.
