This Memorial Day weekend is a time to remember and be thankful toward those who paid the ultimate price serving our country. It’s a weekend most Americans choose to celebrate by holding or attending barbecues, house parties, and community events.

In Santa Clarita, Eternal Valley cemetery will be holding an event beginning Monday May 28, at 10 am. A variety of community and veteran’s organizations will be attending to honor and memorialize service members who have passed. If you choose to attend, it’s best to show up early as thousands are expected.

For those who aren’t going to attend the ceremony at Eternal Valley and instead plan to celebrate with friends and family, remember not to drive after consuming alcohol. The LAPD and LASD will be paying special attention to the highways and byways throughout the county and will be enforcing a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to drinking and driving. There will be numerous DUI checkpoints at various locations, as well as saturation patrols and an increased police presence. A DUI can be extremely costly; not just in the out-of-pocket expenses (which can add up to over $15,000 in fines, fees, and court costs), but to the community as well. When someone drives under the influence and another is injured or killed as a result, the charges can and likely will be significantly upgraded. Depending on the circumstances of the case, felony charges of vehicular manslaughter or murder could result.

If you plan to consume alcohol, there are a lot of ways to keep yourself and others safe by staying off the road. Taxi services, or ride-hailing apps like Uber and Lyft are always available to get you to and from any celebrations or festivities.

Regardless of what you choose to do, have a safe and happy Memorial Day from the SCV Bail Bonds family to yours.
