Deputies working out of the Carpinteria substation service Carpinteria as well as the surrounding unincorporated areas from outside the City of Santa Barbara to the Ventura County line. When someone is arrested in one of these areas, they will be taken to the Carpinteria substation to undergo booking and processing. That’s the procedure in which their photographs are taken, fingerprints are recorded and a national background check is conducted. Once complete, bail will be set and it will be possible to secure the inmate’s release via bail bond.

The Carpinteria substation is small, and the on-site jail is intended only for the short-term housing of inmates. If no bail bond or other option for release is granted, the inmate will likely be transferred to the Santa Barbara County Main Jail. Once transferred, the inmate will need to be processed in to the new facility and will be unable to be bailed out until that happens. Therefore, if you want to get your friend or loved one out of jail quickly, it’s best to start the bail bond process as soon as possible.

What is a Bail Bond?

Bail bonds, also known as “surety bonds,” provide financial incentive to the court to allow an inmate to be free from police custody while they await their trial. When a judge sets bail, he or she is basically stating that the court will need someone to put up X amount of money as collateral to ensure that the inmate, if freed, will show up for their court date. This amount can be pretty high, depending on the number and nature of the crime(s) the defendant is being charged with. A bail bond, though, will only cost 10% of the total bail amount. So, if bail is set at $10,000, the cost of a bail bond is only $1,000. The fee is non-refundable and paid directly to the bail bondsman to secure the release of the inmate.

As long as the defendant shows up for court,  there will be no further financial obligation on the part of the indemnitor. If the defendant does not show up for their court date, then the indemnitor will be responsible for paying the full amount of bail to the court.

What is an Indemnitor?

The indemnitor is the person who signs the bail bond. It is he or she that will be held financially responsible if the defendant does not show up for court. As stated above, the full amount of bail can be considerable, so it is best to only bail out those whom you know and trust.

The Bail Bond Process

It all begins by giving us a call and providing the name, birth date and date and time of arrest of the inmate. We will use this information to locate him or her within the system and verify their eligibility for bail. Once that’s been established, we will have you fill out the short, simple bail bond application forms and sign the indemnitor’s agreement. One of our agents will then be dispatched to the jail and your friend or loved one will be released shortly thereafter.

All of our forms are straight-forward and to the point, but if you have any questions, we’ll be happy to go over things with you step-by-step. If you’re unable to meet with us in person, or simply feel more comfortable in your own home, we  can handle the entire bail bond application process via phone, fax or email. Our priority is to make this situation as stress-free as possible, and if remaining where you are will make that possible, then we’re happy to accommodate you.
