Stabbing in NewhallA Sunday night altercation left a man in intensive care after a Newhall road rage stabbing.

The victim underwent surgery shortly after being rushed to the hospital and is expected to survive.

On Newhall Avenue near the Canyon Crest apartment complex and the 14 freeway, an altercation occurred between two drivers that resulted in one party receiving a stab wound and the suspect fleeing the scene. As of Monday, deputies were still investigating the crime and trying to put all of the pieces together.

Santa Clarita Sheriff Station deputies are unsure as to whether or not the incident was gang-related and are urging witnesses to come forward to tell their story.

From what they’ve learned so far, Sheriff’s deputes believe that around 8:00 pm the victim parked his car at what would become the scene. Shortly thereafter, a late ’90s model Chevy Impala carrying two males collided with the parked vehicle.

Deputies suspect that the collision may have been intentional, since afterward one of the occupants of the Impala exited the vehicle and confronted the victim at the driver-side window of his parked car. Witnesses describe this as being the point in which the victim was stabbed. After that, the two suspects fled in their Impala.

While the victim is expected to survive, detectives will be looking to charge the suspect(s) with attempted murder as opposed to assault with a deadly weapon.
