Don't Drive Buzzed on St. Patrick's DayLOS ANGELES — MARCH 17, 2013

As many may already know, there are plans for St. Patrick’s Day DUI Patrols and Checkpoints in LA County throughout this weekend. St. Patrick’s day is certainly a day to celebrate, but with any celebration there are bound to be arrests…

But before we get into those details, let’s explore a bit of history about the Irish holiday.

St. Patrick’s Day has been celebrated by the Irish for centuries, and they’re credited with bringing the Holiday to the United States as well. The first St. Patrick’s Day celebration in the Americas took place in, of all places, Boston, Massachusetts in 1737.

Today in the United States, people continue to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with gusto. Celebrants traditionally wear green clothing on the day. Those caught without wearing green of some kind, may be subjected to pinches.

St. Patrick’s Day parades are popular across the country, and the largest one held outside Ireland takes place in New York. In Colorado, they boast the shortest St. Patrick’s Day parade, and host it on a street that is less than one city block!

St. Patrick’s Day is also synonymous with drinking, fun and celebration. Green beer and Bailey’s will sure to be at the top of the list of celebratory drinks. During this day, law enforcement will often see a rise in alcohol-related incident’s such as DUI’s and assault charges.

The Avoid the 100 DUI (Driving Under the Influence) Task Force is already on target to deploy special DUI patrols and checkpoints this St. Patrick’s Day weekend in many communities throughout the Los Angeles County area. They will be looking to stop and arrest drivers that may be impaired by alcohol or drugs.

DUI patrols and checkpoint enforcement operations will be in addition to regularly scheduled police officers who work together in order to locate the giveaway signs of an impaired driver.

While there’s nothing wrong with celebrating this special, Irish holiday, remember that it’s extremely important to remain safe while doing so. Be sure to either have a designated driver or a place to stay after parties, and try not to over-indulge. And, just in case you ever need us, call 877-422-4591. We’ll be working round-the-clock this St. Paddy’s Day.

From all of us at SCV Bail Bonds, have a safe and happy St. Patrick’s Day!
