January 11th, 2012 was a day in which Deputies from the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station made several arrests.
Partnering with the School Resource Deputies, the Crime Prevention Unit of the SCV Sheriff’s Department targeted specific locations around Santa Clarita where juveniles tended to gather.
The operation centered around countering incidents of vandalism and theft, as well as the sale and use of drugs by minors. With heroine making a comeback statewide, it is important to Police Chief Becker to ensure that the drug and those who sell it remain far away from young people.
Concerned parents and members of the community often make complaints and offer tips when criminal activity is suspected. Thanks to this information, the Deputies’ operation focused on these problem areas, some of which include the Valencia Town Center, and the city of Santa Clarita Skate Park.
Operations like this are not uncommon in Santa Clarita and are part of the local Sheriff’s Department’s efforts to deter would-be criminals from getting started and to press the point that crimes involving the youth of Santa Clarita will not be tolerated.
The arrests all involve drug-related charges and include; one arrest for possession of concentrated cannabis, one for possession of marijuana, one for driving a vehicle while in possession of marijuana, one juvenile was cited for possession of tobacco products, and one male was arrested for possession of marijuana, concentrated cannabis and ecstasy.
With the SCV Sheriff’s operation a success, the arrests send a clear message to the community that the vigilance of the SCV Sheriff’s Department remains unwavering.
