A 21-year-old Castaic man was arrested Friday, April 13th, and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol with great bodily harm. The charges stem from a collision that occurred at 10:30 pm on February 12 on Bouquet Canyon Rd. when the vehicle the suspect was driving crossed a double-yellow line and was subsequently broadsided by a sedan. The driver is reported to have been speeding at the time of the collision, and both drivers, as well as the three passengers in the suspect’s vehicle, suffered injuries ranging from minor to severe.

It wasn’t until after the incident that investigators were alerted to the existence of a social media video that one of the passengers in the suspect’s SUV was streaming at the time of the collision. According to the video, the driver was using his feet to steer the vehicle.

Shortly after the collision, drivers of both vehicles had blood samples taken to determine whether or not alcohol was a factor. The suspect’s sample reported a blood alcohol content of .05% – enough to qualify for a DUI with great bodily injury charge since the suspect was not 21 at the time the collision occurred. After his arrest, the suspect was booked at the Santa Clarita Sheriff Station and held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
