Rapper The Game finds himself in the news once again, this time for allegedly assaulting an off-duty policeman at a pickup basketball game in March. The Game is facing a $12 million civil lawsuit in which the officer claims the rapper punched him in the face during the game. Like many things, the incident was caught on camera and posted online.

The policeman claims that he was sucker punched, and took into consideration the pain, suffering and inconvenience of the assault, emotional distress, medical care, future medical expenses and punitive damages when calculating the amount he wanted to sue for. The Game did not respond to the civil suit, though he did turn himself in at the LAPD Hollywood Division in regards to the criminal charges filed in the case, and later bailed himself out at $50,000.

It is unclear what criminal charges were filed against the rapper, though if he is charged with battery he faces summary probation, up to 6-months in county jail and a maximum fine of $1,000. It is unlikely that The Game is being charged with assault and battery on a police officer because the officer in question was not engaged in the performance of his duties at the time; which is lucky for The Game. Battery on a peace officer carries with it double the sentence of regular misdemeanor battery. If the battery required medical attention, The Game may have faced 16-months to 3-years in state prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
