Being arrested can be scary – whether you’re guilty of committing a crime or not – and when it happens, most people’s minds are on the thought of languishing in jail until their court date. When someone is arrested under suspicion of DUI in Santa Clarita, they will be taken to the Santa Clarita Sheriff Station to undergo booking and processing. This procedure can take anywhere from 45-minutes to several hours; it all depends on how busy the SCV Sheriff Station is at the time the individual is arrested.

It’s during these first few hours after being arrested that friends or family will try and bail their loved one out of jail. The thing is, if the DUI arrest is the person’s first offense, a bail bond may not be necessary. Provided the arrestee is a California resident with a valid California driver’s license, it’s more than likely that he or she will be “cited out” after booking and processing is complete. When someone is “cited out,” they are given a citation with a date and time to appear in court and then released from police custody.

As long as the arrest is only for a DUI, and it’s their first offense, they will usually be out of police custody by the next morning; at which time he or she will probably need a ride from the Santa Clarita Sheriff Station because DUI arrests often include having their car impounded and/or driver’s license suspended.

If, in the unfortunate situation, the arrest includes additional charges other than a DUI, such as being involved in a collision, or if someone is injured or killed as a result of the DUI, then it is unlikely that the individual will be cited out. In cases like this, the arrestee will probably  not be “cited out,” and their bail will be set a good deal higher.
