Santa Clarita Sheriff - DUI Checkponts in Santa ClaritaA triple-digit temperature isn’t the only heat bearing down on Santa Clarita this week.

Tonight, Friday, July 25th, a DUI checkpoint is scheduled to be held someplace in the city from 6 p.m., to 2 a.m. Saturday, July 26th.

The exact location has not been revealed, though deputies tend to conduct their checkpoints in areas that are both safe for deputies and motorists.

The deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff station will be evaluating drivers to check for signs of alcohol or drug use, as well as checking to ensure that each driver possesses a valid California driver’s license. As a matter of fact, at the last DUI checkpoint held in Santa Clarita, all of the arrests made involved drivers operating motor vehicles without proper licenses.

DUI checkpoints have long been a useful tool in deterring individuals from driving while intoxicated, and thanks to a grant from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the LASD has had the resources to conduct such checkpoints all over the county.

Whenever you plan to head out and enjoy a few drinks, remember to do so responsibly and make sure that you have a safe way home. Nominating a designated driver or calling for a cab can mean the difference between spending the night at home in your bed, or spending it in the custody of the Santa Clarita Sheriff Station deputies.

Stay safe out there, designate a driver, and remember, we’re only a phone call away at (661) 299-2245, just in case you ever really do need us, 24 hours a day.
